Driving Tips To Increase Gas Mileage

Driving Tips To Increase Your Gas Mileage

Nothing may affect your gas mileage more than the way you drive your car. Here are some tips on the best driving habits to maximize your mpg!

*Don't rush up to a turn or red light. Coasting is your friend. If you've got a stick, shift to neutral, and let your momentum carry you to your next stopping point. If people get pissed, let them honk!

*Momentum is key. Maintaining your cornerspeed, so that you don't have to use your engine to recapture lost speed is important. Obviously, do this within limits. You don't need to get into an accident. However, keeping your speed at a moderate level instead of nursing the car into a corner will get you better mileage.

*Lead foots - amputate them! No one ever got gas mileage reving their engine into oblivion. Hard acceleration from a stop or already moving robs you of gas mileage!

*Time lights - It behooves you to know when lights are going to change. If you can carry just 10 mph up to the light, your already saving a bunch of gas - especially with a stick.

The key to everything is anticipation. Anticipate what is coming up in your driving environment. "I have a stop 100 yards up on the right. I can stop giving my car gas now, and coast to that turn." Follow these tips, and without making any changes, you'll notice your gas needle dropping just a bit more slowly!
